How To Display Your Kids Artwork

Do you ever wonder what to do with your kids artwork they bring home from school?  My boys are teenagers now, but I still have a wall in my home with some of my favorite artwork pieces from when they were kids.  Here’s a simple way to hang them up on a wall.  All you need are some frames, any kind will work.   I have frames that were meant for documents, and frames that are metal and some that are wood.  They work together because they are all black.  I’ve even spray painted some to keep the cohesive color theme together.   No need for spending money on fancy mats to go around the artwork, because the kids art is usually odd shapes and sizes.  I just use black construction paper behind all the pieces that don’t fit the frame.  Take a peek:

I know, my kids have mad skills 🙂 Find a frame that will fit the artwork, and a piece of construction paper, I like using black for all the artwork. (Ignore the ugly black stain on my coffee table).   Cut the construction paper to fit the frame, and using double stick tape,  attach artwork to construction paper.  Make sure you date the back of the artwork!!!

READY TO HANG!   Now, that was easy and very inexpensive 🙂   that’s how I roll !

Repurpose Silk Flowers In a Vase

My girlfriend asked for my help in making centerpieces for her daughters upcoming rehearsal dinner.  She already spray painted clear glass vases she had around her house in a looking glass paint.  This paint gives the vase a silver mirrored effect.  The brides colors are silver and purple, so this was perfect for color scheme.  We walked around her home grabbing silk flowers off walls and pulling from behind closets gathering all the silk flowers we could in the same color scheme of purple. Good thing that happens to be colors in her home as well,    We were able to make 8 centerpieces from all the silk flowers she had around the house, and use all the glass vases from her home.  Great repurpose job and the final result is so pretty, she just might have to use them for the wedding as well!

If you start by taping a criss cross pattern across the top of the vase, this will help your flowers stay in place and end result look much more professional.

Using wire cutters, separate all the stems and cut them individually.

Mediterranean Pasta Salad

This is the pasta salad I served for the bridal shower post earlier this week.   Keep in mind that the picture is the recipe tripled. I also used whole wheat pasta, you can use any type pasta you like.  Great easy recipe, and a  hit with pasta lovers.

ImageMediterranean Pasta Salad                                   yields 6-8 servings

1 lb. pasta

1/4 C balsamic vinegar

2 tsp Dijon mustard

1/2 tsp salt

1/2 tsp ground black pepper

1/2 C extra virgin olive oil

1/3 C diced sundried tomatoes (oil packed for better flavor)

1 (14.5 oz.) can artichoke hearts, drained and diced

1/4 C fresh basil, chopped

2 tsp. fresh oregano, chopped

1/4 C diced red onion

3/4 C Kalamata olives, sliced

4 oz. Feta cheese, crumbled

1/2 C fresh grated Parmesan cheese

Whisk the vinegar, mustard, salt and pepper to taste in small bowl. Gradually whisk in the oil to make a smooth dressing, set aside.

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil (1Tbsp salt).  Add pasta and cook until al dente; drain, then pour pasta into a large bowl.  While the pasta is still warm, pour a couple of tablespoons of the dressing over the pasta and toss so it doesn’t stick together as it cools.  Let it cool at room temperature.  Toss occasionally.

After pasta has cooled, add the sundried tomatoes, artichokes, basil, onion, olives, oregano, and toss.  Add the dressing and toss again until the pasta is evenly coated.  Add the cheese and toss. Refrigerate until ready to serve.

How To Hang a Picture Frame

Goodmorning, today’s project is when you have the dilemma of wanting to hang a cute snapshot on the wall in a picture frame you have laying around the house, however this frame has no way of hanging.  All you need is a flip top aluminum soda can and a small screw and screwdriver… check it out! Image

This is great for sitting on the table, but not for hanging on wall…

Now that was easy!!!   I can’t take the credit, I saw this posted a while back on romance on a dime website.

Bridal Shower Brunch

Crustless Egg Quiche and Mediterranean Pasta Salad.  Labeled each with placecards I bought at Michaels & added wedding color.

Caprese Sandwiches, unfortunately only got one poor photo of these yummies.  They were individual sliced baguettes open faced with slices of tomato, basil and fontina cheese melted under broiler with a drizzle of balsamic vinegar reduction on top.

Dessert table consisted of some antique crystal cake plates stacked on top of each other for height and I needed a large platter for the cookies.  All I had was an ugly pizza tray!  I covered it in white wrapping paper, and   wa-lah… a platter for beautiful cookies.  Truffles were made with white chocolate and milk chocolate.  Oreo cookie recipe. I will post later, super duper easy!

Each table had pictures of the bride and groom and this dessert table had a particularly funny one of them hiding out and eating a carton of ice cream

Beverage station with iced tea and spa water  with crystal and glass wine and champagne glasses with tags for each girl to put her name on.  I had mother of bride contribute her glasses with mine, and we had enough for a pretty table.

Mimosa station with champagne and orange juice with fresh strawberries.

A little tulle goes a long way, nothing says “wedding” like tulle.   I really needed to soften my patio structure and this did the trick.

Since the bride is not a big fan of flowers and she happens to be having her wedding and reception outdoors at a lemon packing plant, I decided to use lemons to decorate the tables. We had a number of these on tables throughout with pictures of the bride and groom sitting in the center of arrangement.

Goodie bags for guests as they leave with a thank you note from the bride and groom.
